Pros:

  • Versatility - Bell can line up anywhere for offenses. He played traditional in-line tight end, slot, wide, fullback, halfback, and even wildcat QB. He does it all.
  • YAC Ability - Bell led all tight ends in the nation in YAC per target (among TEs with 20+ targets) in 2021 and finished inside the top ten in both 2022 and 2023.
  • Athleticism - It's clear there's real game breaking speed as soon as the ball is in his hands. He clearly added weight for draft season, but he should post a top notch size-adjusted speed score at the NFL Combine.

Cons:

  • Size Concerns - He measured in at the Senior Bowl just under 6'2" and there really aren't many successful tight ends in NFL history with that size. 244 pounds is a nice weight, but he probably plays much lighter than that.
  • Inconsistent Hands - Bell dropped just one ball in his first full season of action, but couldn't haul in over nine percent of his catchable targets in 2023.
  • Play Strength - Bell forces missed tackles with his speed, bouncing off glancing blows. However, when he's below top speed his lack of elite play strength shows.

Player Evaluation:

Bell is a mismatch nightmare for opposing defenses. There may be some scouts concerned by his atypical measurements but the mix of athleticism, explosive play rate, and versatility make him an intriguing tight end prospect. If he maintains his explosiveness at his bloated 244-pound weight and cleans up some late career drop concerns at a fairly low depth of target Bell should succeed.

Player Role/Comp:

Floor Comp: Quintin Morris with bertter versatility

If Jaheim Bell doesn't land in the right spot his Swiss army knife skills may be underutilized. Or worse, the wrong offensive coordinator may limit him to special packages due to his odd skill set. If that happens he could be strictly rotational.

Ceiling Comp: Delanie Walker with even better YAC ability

Bell has truly elite YAC skills. The Tennessee Titans took advantage of Walker's speed and savvy late into his career with screens, sweeps, and creative seam work. If a team realizes that he could be their de facto second wide receiver his ceiling could be quite high.
