10 MLB players we may not see on the field after this season

As we come down the stretch of the 2019 season, it's inevitable that some players in MLB are reaching their final days in baseball. These 10 players could be wrapping up their careers this fall.

Curtis Granderson, OF

Granderson has extended his career in Miami this year, but his poor numbers suggest he could be finished after this season. At age 38, he's hitting .188-11-33 in 126 games. Granderson has had an excellent 16-year career with 343 home runs and three All-Star appearances.

Rich Hill, SP

Hill has continued to pitch well when he's been on the mound, but multiple major injuries could cause him to retire at age 39. He made only 11 starts this season due to arm and knee injuries, though the lefty did post a 2.68 ERA for the Dodgers. A late bloomer, Hill has a 2.95 ERA since 2015.

Ian Kinsler, 2B

Kinsler added veteran leadership to the Padres roster but is expected to miss the final two months of the season due to a neck injury. Before the injury, the 37-year-old hit only .217-9-22 in 281 plate appearances. He's a four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner.

Pat Neshek, RP

The submarining Neshek made only 20 appearances for the Phils this season due to injuries and has a 5.00 ERA. He's had an outstanding career over 13 seasons with a 2.82 ERA and 16 saves over 544 appearances but has made a total of only 50 appearances over the last two years.

Dustin Pedroia, 2B

Pedroia has really struggled to get over a major knee procedure that he had prior to the 2018 season, playing a total of nine games in two years. He's a Red Sox legend, winning two World Series and the 2008 AL MVP, and he still has two more years remaining on his contract. However, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him retire after this season given the knee trouble.

Martin Prado, IF

Prado is in the final season of a three-year contract in Miami and will likely finish the deal with fewer than 600 plate appearances for the life of the deal. He's done little at the plate over the last three seasons and could have a tough time finding an MLB contract after this season, considering his .554 OPS at age 35.

Fernando Rodney, RP

After a terrible start to his year in Oakland, Rodney moved onto Washington and fixed his season with a 3.62 ERA in 31 appearances. His contract expires following the year, and it's possible Rodney will finally retire at age 42. He's had an accomplished career with 327 saves and three All-Star appearances.

CC Sabathia, SP

Sabathia was already planning to retire after this season, and his struggles with his bulky knee this year have probably made that decision even easier. The big lefty has a 4.95 ERA in 21 starts and could sit out all of September due to injury. He may get some Hall of Fame consideration after he hangs up his glove, with six All-Star appearances, one Cy Young Award and an ALCS MVP.

Pablo Sandoval, 3B

Sandoval is still relatively young at age 33 and had a strong season at the plate for the Giants. However, he remains limited defensively and now has to overcome Tommy John surgery that he had in September. The surgery could limit his availability next season as well as his market viability in MLB.

Adam Wainwright, SP

Injuries have been an issue for Wainwright in recent seasons, but he's had a nice, resurgent effort in 2019. The right-hander has a 4.00 ERA in 28 starts, and his 155.1 innings is his highest total since 2016. Wainwright might have something left at age 38, but he's a pending free agent who could decide to retire after this season. He has 160 wins and a 3.37 ERA for his career.
