Giants Wall of Famer hoping to join Bob Melvin’s coaching staff

“(Will) be interested to see how the coaching staff plays out and what direction they go with some of the young guys,” Snow said. “I've tried to throw my hat in the ring for a little coaching position with the Giants –– haven't heard back yet, but I'm gonna keep trying to go after that and see what can happen.”

While he lacks an existing relationship with Melvin, Snow’s connection to the Giants and reputation as an excellent defensive infielder could create an opening. He was a key part of several Giants postseason teams and is a member of the franchise's Wall of Fame.

However, the 16-year big league veteran hasn’t racked up any full-time professional coaching experience in his career.

The desire to return to baseball isn’t new for Snow.

Even though Snow served as a special assistant in the organization after retiring in 2006, the position didn’t allow him to expand into a significant coaching or broadcasting role –– two post-career jobs in baseball that have caught his eye. He called Cal games for the Pac-12 Network for a few seasons and even filled in for three games on Giants’ broadcasts for NBC Sports Bay Area in 2021.

In an interview on RizzoCast last year, Snow said he was supposed to work games in 2022, but the plans never materialized.

Coaching is next on the six-time Gold Glove award winner’s radar.

“I would love to get on the coaching side and love to be an infield (coach) –– maybe low-stress,” Snow told Murph and Mac. “I love the first base coach's job. You get down there, give them the signs, pat them on the back, collect all their armor. … I've been exploring some avenues and hopefully, it helps out, but we'll see what happens. (I’m) still here in the Bay Area. My heart's with the Giants.”

J.T. Snow, 55, played for the SF Giants from 1997-2005 and became known for his dazzling defense at first base, winning four consecutive Gold Glove awards in his first four seasons with the club. He was also productive offensively by slashing .273/.369/.438 with 124 homers, 615 runs batted in, 228 doubles and a .807 OPS in 1183 games with the team.
