With all eyes on prospects Pete-Crow Armstrong and Matt Shaw at Chicago Cubs Spring Training, Owen Caissie has been making a case for the team to perhaps alter the team's plans entering the 2024 season.

Acquired from the San Diego Padres in 2019, Caissie has been putting in the work to become the Cubs' No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The outfielder spent all of last season in Double-A and posted solid numbers as a member of the Tennessee Smokies. He even played for Team Canada in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

In his first big-league camp with the Cubs, Caissie has a 1.365 OPS and .500 average in 20 plate appearances. It's a small sample size, but that's a solid showing for a prospect who figures to play a major role in the team's bright future.

ESPN's Jeff Passan recently mentioned Caissie as one of 10 players around baseball impressing scouts. "Caissie combines the two qualities every team seeks in a hitter: huge power and fantastic swing decisions," Passan wrote.

While his bat has been impressive, Caissie has also received opportunities in the infield in early workouts this spring. If he can add more versatility to his defense, he'll become even more valuable to the Cubs.

Caissie will get a chance to strut his stuff in MLB's upcoming Spring Breakout prospect showcase. In the inaugural event to highlight baseball's best upcoming talent, Caissie and the Cubs prospects will face White Sox prospects on Friday, March 15 at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.

The Cubs' future is bright thanks to a surplus of young talent in the minor leagues. It remains to be seen if Caissie will receive a promotion this season, but Cubs fans shouldn't overlook the 21-year-old.
