Report: Mets acting GM Zack Scott facing DWI charges

The New York Mets temporarily generated actual positive feelings among members of the fan base on Tuesday with a dramatic come-from-behind win over the Miami Marlins at Citi Field and then a second home victory over those same Marlins that night.

Such optimistic emotions lasted roughly 24 hours.

The New York Post reported Wednesday afternoon that Mets acting general manager Zack Scott was arrested at 4:17 a.m. Tuesday and is facing driving while intoxicated charges after he was caught asleep in his car in White Plains, New York.

The Mets quickly released a statement after the Post story went public:

We were surprised and deeply disappointed to learn this morning about an alleged DUI involving Zack Scott. We take this matter very seriously. Zack will not be traveling with the team for our upcoming road trip while we learn more and determine next steps.

ESPN's Jeff Passan adds:

On the night of New York Mets GM Zack Scott was arrested for allegedly driving drunk, he was at the Connecticut home of team owner Steve Cohen, sources tell ESPN. A fundraiser for the team's Amazin' Mets Foundation was being held at the house, and Scott and players were there.

The story comes in the wake of the controversy caused by Mets players such as Javier Baez and Francisco Lindor using a "thumbs-down" celebration over the weekend in response to fans booing the team during home games this summer. Both Baez and Lindor apologized ahead of Tuesday's first matchup, and Baez was greeted with loud boos during the afternoon outing before he became one of the heroes of an impressive rally:

"TURN THOSE THUMBS AROUND!!!!! JAVY BÁEZ RACES HOME WITH THE WINNING RUN AND THE METS WIN IT, 6-5!"

Wednesday's Marlins-Mets game was postponed Tuesday night due to the weather forecast, so New York will stay at 65-67 on the campaign through the end of the evening. The Mets trail the first-place Atlanta Braves in the National League East division standings by five-and-a-half games.
