World Series-Winning Manager Interested in Mets Vacancy
USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets are in the market for a new manager after president of baseball operations David Stearns fired Buck Showalter.

And one name with loads of experience and an impressive résumé is reportedly interested in the job.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports, Joe Maddon is telling friends that he wants to manage again and would love to manage the Mets. He is hoping to at least land an interview for the job.

Maddon coached in the Los Angeles Angels' system from 1979-2005 before getting hired by the Tampa Bay Rays for his first managerial opportunity.

Maddon led the Rays to the World Series in 2008, but they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in five games.

Maddon was hired to manage the Chicago Cubs in 2015 and helped them break their 108-year drought without a title when they won the World Series in 2016.

If Maddon were to be hired by the Mets, he would be trying to snap their 36-year drought without a World Series championship.

Maddon managed the Angels from 2020-2022, but was fired in June of 2022 after a 12-game losing streak.

He is now trying to get back in the game and would love a shot at managing the Mets.
