Bagent to Start Again, Roster Moves, and More Bears News
Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears are coming off a Hollywood embarrassment after falling 30-13 on Sunday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers. With that said, Matt Eberflus habitually spoke to the media on Monday and already has his mind on Week 9.

Bagent to Start Again in New Orleans

According to the Bears' head coach, quarterback Tyson Bagent will start once again against the Saints in New Orleans. Usual starting quarterback Justin Fields is still considered week-to-week with his dislocated right thumb.

Bagent was solid in the loss to the Chargers on Sunday, but not sensational. Unfortunately, the Bears offensive line was overwhelmed at times and Bagent wasn't always able to play on time. That said, his timeliness led to some dangerous throws that luckily weren't picked off. His two interceptions could have easily been four if not for dropped opportunities.

That said, Bagent heavily relied on the running game in his win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Unfortunately, the Bears' 73 yards of total rushing were not enough to help the rookie quarterback. Bagent was 25/37 for 232 yards and 2 interceptions in the loss.

Nonetheless, it appears Fields is still not ready to resume football activities, meaning Bagent will get another opportunity to show off what he's got as a starter.

Avionte Collins Signed to Practice Squad

Avionte Collins was released by the Bears before their Week 8 matchup with the Chargers. Collins was ultimately let go due to Khalid Kareem's activation from the IR. However, the organization has re-signed him to their practice squad leading into Week 9.

Although Collins' name doesn't move the needle or solve the well-documented issues on the offensive line, it still is helpful keeping linemen within the organization. Collins' depth will be critical if Darnell Wright can no longer play through pain or Braxton Jones' timeline is further delayed than expected.

Jaquan Brisker in Concussion Protocol

According to Matt Eberflus, Jaquan Brisker is in concussion protocol. Brisker's story is quite interesting and has a lot of detail. Eberflus said the following on the matter here.

Nonetheless, it appears Brisker's reported "illness" from the prior week could be related to a concussion. Eberflus stated that he wasn't feeling much better leading into Saturday, hence why he was ruled out. Nonetheless, a cautious approach with his concussion is the right move here.

Adam Shaheen Gets Tryout with Bills

A blast from the past, former Bears second-round pick TE Adam Shaheen is reportedly set to tryout for the Buffalo Bills. Per Tom Pelissero, the Bills are decimated at tight end with a number of injuries, leading to the tryout.

Shaheen has not been on a roster since the 2021 NFL season. Shaheen spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Miami Dolphins after spending the 2017-2019 seasons in Chicago.

Shaheen is one of many early-round busts the Bears have in their recent history. Shaheen has 50 career catches for 509 yards and 7 touchdowns in five NFL seasons.
