Hypothetical trade for the Falcons to land Jayden Daniels
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Terry Fontenot called the Falcons pursuit of a quarterback the top priority for the team this offseason, stating they will be aggressive in attempting to fill the single most glaring deficiency on the roster since he became the general manager three years ago.

“Yeah, we won’t close any doors, Steve. You’re right, that’s the top priority for us this offseason,” Atlanta’s general manager stated. “We’re not going to close any doors, be it trades, free agency, the draft. We’ll make sure we keep an open mind there, and we are going to attack it and get it right.”

The most aggressive possible avenue the Falcons could take to fix their quarterback problem would be to trade up in the draft. As of now, most believe the top three picks will be spent on the top three quarterback prospects — Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye — in some order. However, if for some reason one of the top three teams in the draft gets cold feet, a golden opportunity could present itself for Terry Fontenot and company.

Recently, PFF came up with a mock trade for the Falcons, landing them 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels after trading up with the Patriots for the third overall pick.

Two firsts and a second-round selection for a potential franchise quarterback is a no-brainer. If the Falcons fall in love with Daniels during the draft process and the opportunity becomes available, they shouldn’t even blink at this offer.

It’ll be interesting to see how things shake out as we get closer to the draft. The top three teams all need quarterbacks, but if they have any reservations about the prospect that falls in their lap, the option to trade the pick for a haul is always available. The issue for the Falcons is there are loads of teams that will be vying to trade up into the top three picks, creating a bidding war.

If the price really ends up being a couple of firsts and a second, I see the Falcons pulling the trigger.
