NFL Draft analyst proclaims Bengals' first-round pick is most likely to make Hall of Fame from his draft class

The Cincinnati Bengals haven't drafted a Hall of Fame player in over 40 years. Geno Atkins might be end up changing that in due time, but another former Georgia product could join him in the distant future.

A to Z Sports film room and NFL Draft analyst James Foster called his shot on a recent episode of The Football Room podcast, claiming Bengals' first-round pick Amarius Mims has the best chance of becoming a Hall of Famer from the 2024 draft class.

"They are just very few holes to pick in his game," Foster says. "He needs to speed up his reaction with inside counters, and that's about it. He doesn't lose to speed rushes, He doesn't lose to bull rushes, he's good in the run game. He's athletic, he's one of the biggest offensive tackles in NFL history.

"He has all the natural talent to be a Hall of Fame caliber tackle."

The upside has always been the allure with Mims, but Foster's breakdown also encapsulates how well-rounded the 21-year old's game is right now.

Should his recent injury history become an afterthought, the chances of Mims becoming one of the best picks in this class is pretty strong.

"I think that the injury obviously lowers the percentage," Foster explains. "But I think just purely based on talent, skill, and natural ability, I think Amarius Mims stacks up with not only any tackle in this class, but any player in this class."

Picturing a gold jacket on a player who just started practicing in the NFL is obviously putting the cart before the horse. For as talented as Mims is, his growth begins now as far as becoming a pro.

Mims competed in rookie minicamp last week and has been practicing with the rest of the offense this week. He's even taken starter reps at right tackle, the position he's projected to fill before long.

When he's not taking reps, he's taking notes from left tackle and four-time Pro Bowler Orlando Brown Jr. Mims has passed the veteran's eye test thus far.

"That's the reason they picked him at 18," Brown said of Mims. "He's got a ton of potential, he loves the game. He's got a ton of energy. He's a great listener. Obviously Frank [Pollack]'s been doing an amazing job with him as well.

"He's been great on the field listening, getting better each each and every day."

Baby steps towards a Hall of Fame career, you could say.

Mims has every incentive to learn as much as possible from Brown. The two will be bookend tackles before long, and Brown has managed to build a durable reputation despite being a size outlier at the position. Mims will need to follow suit if he wants to last as long as Brown has in the league.

It's a long way to Canton, but Mims is on the right path.
