Seattle Seahawks could be about to offer Chase Claypool chance to avoid unwanted homecoming
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Chase Claypool's NFL career appears to be heading towards a disappointing conclusion following an unsuccessful spell with the Miami Dolphins.

That point was underlined by the fact he was recently added to the exclusive negotiating list of the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Claypool is a native of British Columbia, so a move to the CFL would be a homecoming, but it is not one he wants to make.

The 2020 second-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who was a member of the PFWA All-Rookie Team after scoring nine touchdowns, wants to stay in the NFL, and the Seattle Seahawks may offer him that chance.

Per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, the Seahawks hosted Claypool on a free agent visit on Tuesday.

Following an ill-fated trade to the Chicago Bears, Claypool was dealt to the Dolphins last October but caught only four passes for 26 yards.

The Seahawks have one of the better starting receiver duos in the NFL in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and drafted Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round last season. Beyond that trio, though, no player on the receiving depth chart can be absolutely sure of a place on the final 53-man roster.

Claypool would therefore figure to at least have some hope of making the team if the visit leads to a signing. However, the recent trajectory of his career suggests that hope would likely not be realized.
