Steelers’ former WR Chase Claypool may find himself out of the NFL sooner than later
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Ever since a rookie year that saw him take the league by storm, things haven't gone to plan for former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Chase Claypool.

Most recently a member of the Miami Dolphins, the physically talented WR has been on three teams in a little over two years.

But according to Justin Dunk of 3DownNation, Calypool's next team may not even be in the NFL:

Claypool to CFL?

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added Canadian receiver Chase Claypool to the team’s exclusive negotiation list, per sources. The 25-year-old is currently a free agent following four seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.

A Canadian native, Claypool attended Notre Dame out of high school and was one of the freakiest athletes in the 2020 NFL Draft after he ran a low 4.4 in the forty-yard dash and jumped over 40 inches in the vertical leap while being 6-4 and nearly 240 pounds.

Those elite traits showed up as a rookie in Pittsburgh, with Claypool recording 873 receiving yards and nine TDs.

And while his second year in the league had similar receiving totals, his TD production dropped from nine to two. But perhaps more harmful to his future wasn't the stat sheet but Claypool's attitude.

Becoming more wrapped up in what came with football than football itself, Pittsburgh was able to move off of Claypool for a second round pick that netted them Joey Porter Jr.

But after his inability to acclimate in Chicago, the Bears shipped him to Miami last season where Claypool only played sparingly.

So at only 25 years old and a few seasons removed from what would be a career year for multiple NFL players, Claypool is a free agent and can't find a suitor in the league, or at least not yet, meaning his best bet to continue his professional career may require a trip back home.
