Inter Milan will have rivals in La Liga and the Premier League to sign Lille and Portugual Under-21 defender Tiago Djalo on a free transfer.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Djalo is a player who had been on Inter’s radar as early as the January transfer window of last season.

That was when it became clear that Milan Skriniar would not be extending his contract.

Had the Slovakian joined Paris Saint-Germain for a fee in January then Inter were considering a move for Djalo.

The Portuguese international is a player who the Nerazzurri had marked out as a potential like-for-like replacement for Skriniar.

In the end, Skriniar stayed at Inter until the end of last summer. However, given that the Slovakian left to join PSG for free when his contract with the Nerazzurri ran out, a replacement was still needed.

In the end, Inter signed Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich to replace Skriniar.

However, that does not mean that they have entirely lost interest in signing Djalo.

Inter Face La Liga & Premier League Competition For Tiago Djalo

Inter are big fans of Djalo’s versatility. They feel that the Portuguese can play in any position across their backline.

And then the fact that Djalo’s contract with Lille runs out at the end of next June is a big factor.

Inter are sensing an opportunity to sign Djalo on a free transfer.

The fact that Djalo has recovered from a serious knee injury has not put Inter off. They believe that the 23-year-old can return back to his best.

There are, however, other clubs with an interest in Djalo. These include Juventus, AC Milan, and Barcelona.

And Inter want to get the jump on the competition for Djalo’s signature.

The Nerazzurri are actively working to wrap up a deal.

But Tuttosport note that there is certainly no lack of competition to sign the Portuguese.

Teams from the Spanish and English top flights are also keen to take advantage of the opportunity to sign Djalo on a free transfer next summer.
